PYNEWOOD PRESS

An Independent Literary Fiction Publisher
London • Tokyo • Global

Pynewood Press is an independent literary publisher seeking fiction that takes creative risks with purpose. We are drawn to writing that is ambitious, unconventional and meticulously crafted, books that challenge expectations while remaining deeply invested in character, language and emotional truth.

From our editorial base in Tokyo, we work across languages and borders in search of distinctive fiction. We publish original works written in English alongside literature translated into English, bringing together voices that challenge, surprise and endure.

We publish literary fiction, experimental and formally inventive narratives, high-concept stories, historical fiction and works that resist easy categorisation. Our interests range from the intimate to the expansive, the historical to the contemporary, the realist to the speculative. Writing must feel purposeful, assured, alive.

We publish only a handful of titles each year. This allows us to work closely with every author and invest significant editorial care in the books we choose. We look for writers who have pushed beyond the obvious, resisted easy solutions and created work that rewards close reading.

A Sonic Literary Fiction Collection

Pynewood Press is seeking 3-5 writers to contribute a piece of short fiction (up to 2,000 words) for an anthology, paired with a musician's interpretation on the movement, shape and rhythm of the story.

Getting a feel for how editor and writer work together was a very good experience for me. I belong to a writers group but sometimes it makes things more complex. The editor really got to the heart of the story and knew how to find the missing pieces.
