PYNEWOOD PRESS
Pynewood Press is a small, independent imprint dedicated to high-quality storytelling. What excites us is fiction that feels considered from the outset, shaped by intention, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to the craft through diverse forms.
From our editorial base in Tokyo, we work across languages and borders in search of fiction that is ambitious and distinctive. We publish original works written in English alongside literature translated into English, bringing together voices that challenge, surprise and endure.
We are drawn to writing that is meticulously crafted yet fearless in its imagination: literary fiction, unconventional narratives, formally inventive work, and high-concept stories that remain deeply invested in character, language and emotional truth. Whether intimate or expansive, historical or contemporary, realist or speculative, we look for manuscripts that take creative risks with purpose and reward close reading.
We publish only a handful of titles each year. This allows us to work closely with every author, investing significant editorial care into books we believe have the potential to become exceptional. We seek writers who have pushed beyond the obvious, resisted easy solutions, and are committed to creating work that is both artistically accomplished and enduring.

Getting a feel for how editor and writer work together was a very good experience for me. I belong to a writers group but sometimes it makes things more complex. The editor really got to the heart of the story and knew how to find the missing pieces.
